What is CRISM?

four people seated around a table, with notebooks and laptopsThe Canadian Research Initiative in Substance Misuse (CRISM) is a national research network – consisting of four regional ‘Nodes’ across Canada ( British Columbia, the Prairies, Ontario, and Quebec/Atlantic regions) made of academic investigators, community-based service providers, systems/policy representatives and service users –focusing on substance misuse interventions funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and established in 2015. CRISM focuses on research on prevention and treatment interventions for substance misuse (primarily illicit drugs and non-medical use of pharmaceutical drugs), and knowledge translation of related research and evidence.

Ontario CRISM Node

The Ontario CRISM Node Team (OCRINT) consists of an integrated team of academic investigators from institutions across Ontario, community-based intervention providers, and system/policy representatives, as well as people with lived experience. OCRINT is interested in expanding its membership.

As one of four Nodes of the pan-Canadian CRISM Network, OCRINT:

  • Conducts CRISM- and/or Ontario-based research into evidence-based interventions for substance misuse towards improved intervention options and systems.
  • Shares and translates knowledge and evidence related to interventions for substance misuse towards improved interventions and systems.
  • Enhance collaboration and communication between researchers, service providers, policy makers and those with lived experience both regionally and across the country.
