Ontario Family Caregivers Advisory Network looking for new board of directors members

The Nominations Committee of the Ontario Family Caregivers’ Advisory Network (OFCAN) Board of Directors would like to hear from individuals who are interested in volunteering for a two-year term on the Board.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a network of dedicated advisory councils and community groups that support family caregivers of people with mental health and addictions issues.

Volunteers and members of the community are also encouraged to submit names of those who may be interested in being a board member.

The Board of Directors meets approximately once per month via electronic means and conducts business via email as needed.
Major Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the bylaws, policies and objects of OFCAN Review the bylaws and recommend bylaw changes to the membership.
  • Participate in the development of OFCAN`s organizational plan and annual review.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining positive relations among the Board, committees, staff members, and community to enhance OFCAN’s mission.
  • Organizational leadership and advisement
  • Formulation and oversight of policies and procedures
  • Financial management including approval and oversight of the annual budget
  • Oversight of program development
  • Fundraising and public relations

Expectations of Board Members:

  • Commitment to the work of the organization.
  • Attendance at Board Meetings and Member’s meetings
  • Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: policy, finance, project lead, personnel, and networking.
  • A willingness to communicate and promote OFCAN’s mission and goals as outlined on our website: www.ofcan.org
  • Be alert to member needs and concerns that can be addressed by OFCAN’s mission, objectives, and programs
  • Become familiar with OFCAN’s finances, budget, and financial/resource needs
  • Understand the policies and procedures of OFCAN
