Renewed funding for the HSJCC community of interest announced

The Human Services and Justice Coordinating Committee (HSJCC) Community of Interest (CoI) has received renewed funding from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s (CAMH) Evidence Exchange Network (EENet).

Last year the HSJCC COI successfully hosted two webinars. If you would like to see these webinars, click below:

  1. Strategies for Community Service Providers for Engaging in Communication with Correctional Facilities in Ontario; and
  2. Strategies for Implementing Effective Police-Emergency Department Protocols in Ontario.

This first webinar had over 70 attendees who learned ways to establish direct communication and how to formalize it when working with correctional facilities.

The second webinar had close to 100 attendees and provided useful examples of working agreements between hospitals and police departments, which improved wait times in the emergency department for individuals with mental health and addictions issues who have come into contact with the law and the police officers that accompanied them.

In 2013-14, the HSJCC COI will continue to collaborate with the HSJCC Communications and Knowledge Transfer Committee to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Identify and share exemplary practices in the human services and justice sectors that improve the lives of individuals with mental health and addictions issues who have come into contact with the law
  2. Share information across the HSJCC network (over 1500 people) and beyond, and develop evaluation tools to assess the impact of Provincial HSJCC knowledge exchange events

Stay tuned for:

• New webinars sharing exemplary practices from across Ontario;
• The Provincial HSJCC Conference – New Realities: The Changing World from Youth to Elderly in Human Services & Justice on November 25-27th, 2013 (Register here!); and
