Creating Together

creating together consultation with LGBT communities identifies priority areas for research in mental health and addictions

As part of the broader creating together initiative, in September, 2010, EENet (under its original name, the Ontario Mental Health and Addictions Knowledge Exchange Network) and Rainbow Health Ontario partnered to sponsor the first mental health and addictions research consultation with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities in Ontario.

We are delighted to present the results of creating together: Co‐Creating a Mental Health and Addictions Research Agenda for Ontario. creating together began in the spring of 2010, with a shared interest from EENet, Co‐sponsors and Supporters to jointly develop a research agenda.

creating together used a number of different approaches to gather priorities from stakeholders, and we were so pleased to receive almost overwhelming interest to participate in discussions on new knowledge needs that could be used to improve our mental health and addictions systems. We hope that those of you who participated will read these findings with great interest and a sense of shared accomplishment. A special thank‐you to the committees and volunteers of creating together for their effort and support in helping to bring this idea to fruition.

The work of the creating together partners isn’t over! Our participation in the creation of this research agenda represents our commitment to continue to develop research and knowledge in these areas, and ensure that it is applied to improve the health system and health outcomes for Ontarians. Sponsors are committed to using the findings to guide decisions about future research funding and other allocation decisions.

We hope that these results will stimulate useful linkages and dialogue across the province. EENet will continue to facilitate interactions between stakeholders as we work together to enhance mental health and addictions research and knowledge.
