  • Summarize the evidence for the abuse of psychotropic medications, excluding opioids, benzodiazepines and stimulants.
  • Illustrate the role of the clinician in identifying and reporting prescription drug abuse.
  • Describe the state of early warning surveillance systems in Canada.

Maria Zhang, RPh, BScPhm, PharmD, MSc
CAMH Pharmacy

Maria Zhang is a Clinician Educator jointly at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto (U of T). Her clinical role at CAMH is an Advanced Practice Pharmacist. Maria complet-ed her graduate work at CAMH under the supervision of Dr. Beth Sproule, and through the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Collaborative Program in Addiction Studies at U of T. While completing her MSc, Maria’s clinical training and work was based at the Addiction Medicine Service, CAMH. The focus of her research and her teaching is addictions, with a focus on prescription drug abuse.

Addictions Rounds is a self-approved group learning activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
