On Friday, May 6, 2016, CAMH Addiction Rounds presented a webinar: “Psychotherapeutic approaches to Adolescents with Concurrent Disorders.”

Learning Objectives:

  • To describe the Concurrent Disorders Youth Unit at CAMH
  • To discuss DBT-informed psychotherapy sessions for adolescents with concurrent disorders
  • To describe motivational enhancement strategies, cognitive behavioural approaches and incorporation of trauma-informed care in this population
  • To detail how family involvement is a particularly important component for treating addiction in youth

Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto

Dr. Courtney graduated from McMaster University’s Psychology B.Sc. program, then attended Queen’s Medical School and completed residency in psychiatry at the University of Ottawa. He worked at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre in the Youth Inpatient Unit for 5 years and moved to Toronto in April 2014 where he started working at CAMH. Clinical interests include complex and refractory resistant mental illness in adolescents. He also plays volleyball and enjoys downhill skiing.

Dr Nguyen graduated from York University's Kinesiology and Health Science B.Sc. program, then attended Universi-ty of Alberta Medical School and completed residency in psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She completed fellowship training in Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She is board certified in addiction psychiatry and addiction medicine. Her clinical interests include treatment of ad-diction and co-occurring disorders in youth. She enjoys scuba diving and snow boarding.
